Is Elephantom dinnerware fragile?

Although all ceramics have made the journey back and forth from hell (also known as the kiln), they are sturdy until they are no longer. They are more resistant than industrially-produced items because their firing temperature is much higher. They are intended for everyday use and are made of porcelain or stoneware, which are strong, durable and dishwasher-resistant materials. However, care must be taken, as ceramic tableware are not unbreakable.

Are the dishes truly dishwasher safe?

Elephantom dinnerware is dishwasher-resistant. The first items out of each collection are used to test their durability. The resistance of each prototypes has also been thoroughly tested. However, they must be handled with care as ceramic objects are not unbreakable.

Do your glazes contain lead?

No. All our glazes are lead-free. Elephantom dinnerware does not contain any substances that are hazardous to your food.

Why does it take an average of 6 to 9 weeks for the creations to be ready?

Once the ceramics have been turned or shaped by hand, a drying time is necessary. The longer and more even it is, the less risk there will be of item losses during the firing in the kiln. In the workshop, I let my creations dry completely by starting the drying process in a damp chamber. Although I am eager to continue the creative process as fast as possible, I also know that being patient will ultimately pay off as if the pieces are completely dry, they will survive both firings in the kiln. After this first step, the pieces must still be glazed and then fired a second time in the kiln. Patience is therefore required when working with clay.

Another reason is linked to the organization of my work in the studio. I craft my ceramics collection by collection. Porcelain work cannot be undertaken in a room in which black stoneware is also being worked on and vice versa. The creation of a collection is therefore only started once the previous collection has left the studio for the kiln.

Is it possible to make a pre-order?

It is entirely possible to order your plate service. I work by collections: Basalt, Hurricane, Diversity, Lagoon, ... Plates can be created for each collection, even if there is not always a specific product available on the online store. You can contact me by clicking here. 2 things will be necessary: the name of your favorite collection and that you have the patience to wait the few weeks necessary for the creation process.

However, I don't create customized decoration items, I sell what is available once the creation process is over.

Are the items made in Belgium (Europe)?

Yes, all Elephantom ceramic creations are handmade in Belgium. My pottery workshop is located in Fernelmont, in the province of Namur. Most of the clay used is extracted in Wallonia and Flanders. 100% Belgian handmade and available on a Belgian online shop.

Do you craft custom-made items?

I work by collections: Sea Ice, Antarctica, Pyrenees, Cocoa, ... Plates can be created for each collection, even if there is not always a specific product available on the online store. If you like the specific style of an available item, I can create plates in the same spirit. You can contact me by clicking here. 2 things will be necessary: the name of your favorite collection and that you have the patience to wait the few weeks necessary for the creation process.

However, I don't create customized decoration items, I sell what is available once the creation process is over.

Are all your products handmade?

All Elephantom.Design ceramic products are handmade. I do wheel throwing, hand building, slab building, slip casting and other personal craft approaches.

For light fixtures, only the ceramic part is handmade. The electrical part comes directly from a certified supplier based in Europe.
